Noise

All about noise and how good room acoustics can control it

NOISE INDUCED DISTURBANCE AND HARM

Noisy rooms are unpleasant, you don't feel comfortable working or you don't find the relaxation and peace you want at home. Living room and dining area might feel stressful and annoying as soon as a few people sit together. The conversation becomes tiring and when the visitors leave, everyone is exhausted.
It shouldn't and doesn't have to be this way, because there are many variations to reduce noise and solve the problem. A solution does not have to be expensive and can often be accomplished quite easily.

Noise is unhealthy and can cause medical conditions.

As shown in many international studies, noise has negative effects on us humans. It is not only the level of noise that is decisive, but also the duration of exposure to it.
Noise levels as low as 65-75dB(A), such as those generated in a normal office by computers, ventilation systems, copiers, employee conversations, etc., are enough to cause long-term problems. Our body translates noise to stress and reacts with corresponding symptoms. Sleep disturbances, arterial hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiovascular diseases and myocardial infarction (heart attack) are only a part of the possible conditions and diseases that can arise from the influence of increased noise levels in everyday life. A noise level as low as 45 dB(A) makes normal conversation difficult. A noise level from 50 dB(A) leads to raising the voice in conversation and from 60dB(A)must already be spoken with a loud voice to remain intelligable
It is important to reduce the amount of noise in everyday life and to create pleasant and quiet spaces in the living area.

Why good room acoustics are important

Rooms with poor room acoustics have a long reverberation time. This means that sounds generated by equipment or conversations reverberate in the room for a while. The "echo effect" created in such reverberant rooms causes long-lasting, disturbing background noise that reduces speech intelligibility and makes normal conversation extremely difficult. The more people, the more disturbing noises; the more disturbing noises, the louder we have to talk so that our counterpart can still understand us. The situation builds up more and more until finally a sound level is reached that is far above tolerable. At the workplace, concentrated work is hardly possible, and in a restaurant or living room, it is almost impossible to hold a discussion at a normal level. To reduce noise and create a pleasant, quiet environment, the acoustics in the room must be improved and the reverberation time reduced. This reduces the overall noise and we feel comfortable again, can concentrate better and find much-needed relaxation in our free time.
